Neil Armstrong

Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930.  He had one sister and one brother. As a kid he loved airplanes and he got his pilot license at 15. He went to college but had to put that on hold because he was called to join the Air Force. He served in Korea and at one time his plane got hit but he was safe. After he was in the Air Force, he went back to college to finish his degrees.  He worked as a new plane tester, but then decided to apply to become an astronaut. He had to go through very harsh physical tests but he passed.  He was the second group of astronaut ever. His main mission was Apollo 11.  Apollo 11 was the first flight to the moon ever and they succeeded and gathered a lot of new information about the moon. He was the first man to step on the moon and he called the moment, "That's one small step for man, that's one giant leap for mankind".  He soon retired from being a astronaut and became a college professor. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom the highest award an American citizen can ever get. He died on August 25, 2012 but his legacy still lives.
