Space Race

          The Space Race was part of the Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union. Everyone thought space exploration was the next big thing. So the US and the Soviet Union were racing to the moon. And so it started, the Soviet Union were the first to send a satellite to orbit the Earth. But the US was not far behind sending there own satellite. The Soviet Union was still in the lead by sending there own into space to orbit the Earth one time. The US was catching up by sending John Glenn into orbit for just one  rotation. The last stretch was coming up, who could land on the moon first. Apollo 11 was the first moon landing attempt and the US was successful. The Soviet Union had four fail attempt to the moon, but the US beat them there. And thats how the US won the race to the moon."One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," was Neil Armstrong's famous quote while he was on the moon.
